Keith Lee’s Latest Photo Sparks “Cult” Concerns Online—Here’s What We Actually Know

Keith Lee has resurfaced on social media after a lengthy absence, but the former WWE star’s new photograph has generated concern instead of excitement about a possible wrestling return.

On September 10, Lee shared a photograph of himself with Darius J. Wright while directing followers to Wright’s website and YouTube channel. The post contained little explanation, leaving fans to interpret the association for themselves.

Some commenters quickly described the situation as “definitely a cult,” while others asked AEW President Tony Khan to check on Lee. However, there is currently no verified evidence that Lee has joined a cult, surrendered control of his finances or formally entered any organization.

One photograph and a promotional link do not establish any of those claims.

Who Is Darius J. Wright?

Wright describes himself as a “consciousness explorer” who investigates out-of-body experiences, life after death and what he calls nonphysical reality.

His official website promotes “The Great Work” and an approach known as the AYDA Method, meaning “Awaken Your Dormant Abilities.” The website also offers teachings, online and in-person gatherings and a private space for people interested in Wright’s spiritual ideas.

According to Wright’s own description, his mission involves helping people remember their “eternal nature” and develop abilities he believes exist within human consciousness. His website says his in-person events train participants to achieve out-of-body states and access higher levels of consciousness. Wright explains those beliefs and programs on his official website.

Those claims are unconventional, and fans are entitled to question them. Still, unconventional spiritual beliefs are not automatically proof that an organization is a cult.

No recognized authority or documented investigation cited in the current reporting has formally classified Wright’s organization that way.

Why Keith Lee’s Fans Are Concerned

The reaction is partly connected to how little fans have heard from Lee during his prolonged wrestling absence.

Lee has not wrestled since defeating Brian Cage on the December 23, 2023, episode of AEW Collision. An injury initially removed him from television, although Lee said in June 2025 that his health had been good for “quite some time.”

Industry speculation has since suggested that Lee may be effectively retired, but Lee has never confirmed his retirement. As recently as June 2026, Tony Khan discussed several missing AEW performers and said some could return “very soon,” without identifying exactly which wrestlers he meant. F4WOnline reported Lee’s wrestling status remains unresolved.

Lee’s nearly year-long social-media silence made his unexpected return especially noticeable. Rather than discussing wrestling or his health, he promoted Wright without explaining the nature of their relationship.

That information vacuum allowed concern—and speculation—to spread quickly.

Several social-media users warned Lee against becoming involved with a cult or possible scam. Others tagged Khan and people close to Lee while urging them to intervene. ClutchPoints documented several of the concerned fan responses.

Concern Does Not Make the Allegation True

Fans can care about Lee while maintaining a clear distinction between observable facts and online assumptions.

What is confirmed is limited:

• Lee posted a photograph with Wright.

• Lee promoted Wright’s website and YouTube channel.

• Wright publicly teaches ideas involving out-of-body experiences and dormant abilities.

• Fans expressed concern about Lee’s association with him.

What has not been established is whether Lee is a student, friend, business associate, event participant or simply someone interested in Wright’s content.

It has also not been established that Wright controls Lee, has taken money from him or has isolated him from friends and family. Calling the situation a confirmed cult involvement would therefore go beyond the available evidence.

Fans Should Avoid Harassment and Personal Diagnoses

The responsible response is not to ridicule Lee, harass Wright or treat speculation as a proven emergency.

Fans can critically examine public claims about supernatural experiences, paid teachings and private communities. They can also encourage Lee to protect his independence, finances and support system without pretending to know the full circumstances of his personal life.

Lee has endured serious health problems and years of uncertainty surrounding his wrestling career. That history naturally makes supporters protective of him, but it does not give strangers complete access to his private decisions.

Until Lee offers more information, this remains a story about an unexplained association and the reaction it created—not confirmation that Keith Lee has joined a cult.

Hopefully, Lee is healthy, supported and making his own informed choices. Wrestling fans would undoubtedly welcome hearing directly from him, whether the next update concerns his personal journey or one final return to the ring.
