Zilla Fatu Could Reportedly Be Fast-Tracked to WWE’s Main Roster
Zilla Fatu has only been part of WWE NXT for approximately one month, but speculation about his main-roster future is already intensifying.
Dave Meltzer recently said on Wrestling Observer Radio that he expects Fatu to reach WWE’s main roster “relatively soon.” Meltzer also compared the urgency behind Fatu’s NXT presentation to the dominant push previously given to Oba Femi.
That does not mean a call-up date has been decided. WWE has not officially announced that Fatu is leaving NXT, and he remains involved in an active storyline with BirthRight.
The pace of his first month, however, makes the speculation understandable.
WWE Immediately Presented Zilla Fatu as a Major Star
Fatu made his WWE debut on the August 11 episode of NXT by interrupting a No. 1 contender’s match between Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana.
He attacked both men, confronted then-NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo and declared himself “the new sheriff in town.”
There was no extended series of introductory matches against developmental opponents. Fatu was inserted directly into the NXT Championship picture and positioned alongside established television stars.
One week later, he signed his NXT contract and forced his way into the Heatwave championship match. That made the contest a Fatal 4-Way featuring Fatu, D’Angelo, Waller and Montana.
Fatu did not win the championship at Heatwave, but he was protected during the finish. After Fatu hit D’Angelo with the Samoan Spike, Waller pulled the referee away before ultimately capitalizing on the chaos and winning the title. The Heatwave main event continued Fatu’s immediate placement among NXT’s leading names.
That is not the presentation normally given to someone WWE intends to develop quietly.
Reports Suggest WWE Is Already Thinking Beyond NXT
Meltzer previously reported that Fatu was expected to reach the main roster “soon enough.”
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select added another important detail. According to the report, a video package about Fatu that aired on Monday Night Raw was designed as a “soft introduction” for main-roster viewers unfamiliar with him.
The report also stated that some people within WWE believe an eventual association with Fatu’s relatives in The Bloodline could provide a foundation for his long-term success.
Showing an NXT newcomer on Raw does not guarantee an immediate promotion, but it suggests WWE wants its larger audience to learn his name early.
Zilla Fatu Is Already Generating Main-Roster Interest
Fatu’s family history gives WWE an obvious promotional hook.
The 27-year-old is the son of the late Umaga and a member of the celebrated Anoaʻi wrestling family. His connection to The Bloodline immediately creates possible stories involving some of WWE’s most recognizable performers.
Family history alone does not guarantee success, however.
Fatu developed an audience before joining WWE through appearances for Reality of Wrestling, House of Glory, Game Changer Wrestling and other independent promotions. His intensity, physical presence and Samoan Spike allowed him to acknowledge his father’s legacy while developing his own identity.
According to Meltzer, online interest in Fatu’s NXT debut reached a level rarely produced by the developmental brand. He described Fatu as a potential “difference maker” whom audiences naturally gravitate toward. Ringside News reported Meltzer’s comments about Fatu’s audience response and possible promotion.
WWE notices that type of response.
Television ratings matter, but social-media views, merchandise potential and audience engagement also influence how quickly a performer receives larger opportunities.
The BirthRight Story Is Another Important Test
After Heatwave, Fatu defeated Tristan Angels in his first televised WWE singles match and rejected an invitation to join BirthRight.
Charlie Dempsey attempted to recruit him again on September 8. Fatu responded with another emphatic refusal before BirthRight attacked him. Lexis King struck Fatu with a chair, and the group eventually drove him through a table.
The angle made Fatu look important enough that an entire faction needed to unite against him. It also moved him into a traditional babyface role without softening his character.
This rivalry should give WWE an opportunity to evaluate Fatu beyond surprise appearances and championship matches. He will need to carry weekly segments, deliver live promos and maintain audience interest through a longer storyline.
Those skills will determine whether he is truly prepared for Raw or SmackDown.
Would Fast-Tracking Fatu Be the Right Decision?
Fatu possesses several qualities WWE cannot teach.
He has an immediate physical presence, an established family connection, a recognizable finishing move and a natural intensity that translates through television. Fans reacted to him before WWE had fully explained his character.
The company also has an obvious main-roster destination available through The Bloodline.
That does not mean WWE should rush him simply because the family story exists.
Fatu began wrestling professionally in 2023. Although he gained valuable independent experience, he is still learning the specific demands of WWE television. NXT can help him refine match pacing, live promos, camera awareness and the ability to carry a storyline over several months.
A premature promotion could place him inside a major story before he has developed enough tools to remain important once the initial surprise wears off.
WWE should also avoid making Fatu’s entire identity dependent upon his relatives. Joining The Bloodline could introduce him to a massive audience, but his NXT run should first establish what separates Zilla Fatu from every other member of his family.
What Could a Main-Roster Debut Look Like?
The easiest option would be a surprise appearance during a Bloodline confrontation.
Fatu could arrive as an ally, an enforcer or an unpredictable relative who refuses to choose a side. His “new sheriff” presentation would work especially well if he entered WWE’s family conflict without immediately accepting anyone else’s authority.
WWE could also introduce him independently.
Allowing Fatu to establish himself through dominant victories before becoming involved with The Bloodline would make the eventual family interaction feel more significant. He would enter the story as a developed force instead of another new member requiring an explanation.
The Raw video package suggests WWE has already started laying the groundwork, even if the company is not ready to reveal the final destination.
Fast-Tracked Does Not Necessarily Mean Immediate
Fatu’s current booking strongly suggests WWE considers him a priority.
In approximately one month, he has interrupted an NXT main event, challenged for the championship, earned his first televised victory and become the target of an entire faction. Few newcomers receive that amount of attention so quickly.
The reports surrounding a main-roster move are credible enough to follow, but fans should not mistake expectation for confirmation. No promotion date, brand assignment or Bloodline role has been announced.
Fatu may remain in NXT long enough to complete the BirthRight program and develop his character before moving forward.
Whether that takes several weeks or several months, WWE appears determined to prepare audiences for Zilla Fatu’s arrival on a much larger stage.
The only question may be how soon the new sheriff reaches Raw or SmackDown.
